This
aircraft was hit by flak on the 22 April 1944 mission
to Poggibonsi. An engine was shot out along with the
hydraulics. The pilot, Lt. Augusta L. West flew the
aircraft back on a single engine for a belly landing
on Corsica. The crew escaped unhurt, apart for the co-pilot
who had been wounded by flak. The aircraft was written
off. Lt. West received DFC for his actions.
